Rainbow Doodle Cake

Today was my last day babysitting for the summer, and we wanted to have some fun. Since I love to bake, we decided that we should end the summer with something sweet. This is an idea from a baking site called Sweetapolita and the kids just loved it! They got to draw all over a cake with markers and then eat it. So fun!

Rainbow Doodle Cake

Ingrediants

Cake:
2 boxes white cake mix
1 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup sour cream
6 eggs whites
2 tsp vanilla extract
Assorted gel food coloring (liquid food coloring will not be vibrant enough)

Frosting:
1 1/2 cups butter
4 1/4-6 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Decor:
1 package rolled fondant (I bough Wilton's from Walmart)
Food safe markers

Preparation:
Cake: Preheat oven to 350'F. Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a large bowl. Divide equally into 4 smaller bowls and dye batter desired colors. Oil and line the bottom of as many cake pans as you need (we only had two, so we used them twice). Pour one color of batter per cake pan and bake until tester comes out clean.

Frosting: Beat butter until smooth. Add vanilla extract and slowly add powdered sugar until you reach your desired consistency.

Assemble: Stack the layers with frosting in between. Then, put a light layer of frosting around the entire cake. I'm not great with fondant, so here's a link to a video to show you how to do that (it has the guys from Ace of Cakes!) Fondant Tutorial
Use markers to draw on fondant.
